Happy Mother’s Day! Water is just the beginning because… it makes childbirth safer.

Imagine having to give birth with no safe water and nowhere clean to go to the toilet. Every year, around 60 million children are born into homes without access to sanitation.”Water and hygiene are very important during birth, because if you don’t have water, there is dirt around that can cause infection. It really affects us because we don’t have water to wash our hands after doing procedures on the wards.” – Clara Muchimba, 34 midwife, Zambia. Way 9 of WaterAid’s #20ways that water changes lives, counting down to World Water Day, 22 March 2013.
